Review of the Burley Cub X, 2 Seat Kids Bike Trailer & Stroller

As a mom of 3 kids, it's tough (if not impossible) to find a bike trailer setup that fits all of my offspring at once. In fact- the trailer I'm reviewing today doesn't even fit them all. We actually purchased two of these, and my husband pulls one with his bike and I pull the other. I do wish more than anything I could find a three or four seat trailer, but they don't seem to exist. Until my oldest has her own bike and can ride a good distance, bike trips are an entire family outing versus 'mom going out with the kids real quick'.

Moving past the daydream of a 3-4 kid capacity trailer that doesn't exist- Here's what DOES exist. The Burley Cub X.

During the summer of 2025 we shelled out for a pair of these fancy bike trailers, - which seem crazy overpriced but are actually very well made and quite impressive in quality and comfort. I'll make this review brief - it's basically all pros and no cons anyways! If anything I wish this decent quality was more affordable, but that's how I feel about everything these days anyways!

Burley Cub X Review

For context and reference- we have Euphree City Robin e-bikes. We're not lazy or anything- we just like the option to add a little boost on the tired ride BACK after we've adventured out a good ways on the trails. If you have it in your budget to get an e-bike I do absolutely recommend it, especially if you're pulling a trailer of kids. We have the older models of these bikes but they still work great, have a long battery life, and a comfortable shape for getting on and off.

We swapped the original seats for some wider ones that we found on Amazon, added some rearview mirrors, and we've (in the couple years we've owned them) replaced the break rotors and stuff like that. And by we I do mean my husband- that kind of stuff is outside of my wheelhouse. I'll pack the bag though!

Bike rides are one of my family's favorite activities, living in the midwest we've got a ton of great paved trails that run for miles and miles. You can drive to the trailhead, load up your bikes and trailers, and spend a couple hours going out quite a ways. They do get to be pretty popular during the warmer season, it seems like everybody's got the same idea!

You may have taken one look at the price and closed the tab, wondered why a person would spend so much on a bike trailer, and probably even closed the tab on this review as well. Well- if ya didn't, I'll keep on going. I have found that sometimes the more expensive items are worth it.

At first I had personally suggested we find something cheaper, as I usually do, but my husband did extensive research on the different options available and based the final decision on a few things like comfort, seat padding and reclining, 'folding up' ability to pack into the car, weight, shocks, tires, all kinds of stuff. Despite the price tag, these looked to be the best option available. We managed to get one on sale, I had put it in my cart on the erik's bike shop website and left it there for a few hours which somehow triggered an email with a discount attached to it. We put them on biweekly payment plans to soften the blow as well.

Overall, they check the boxes for us. Smooth comfortable ride for the kids, smooth pull for us, comes undone easily to pack into the car (so we can drive to a place to bike at), easy to use the sun/rain cover, recline seats, pack things into the back, etc. They even have a hard plastic bottom piece where the kids put their feet, so things like rocks underneath or moisture isn't an issue.

If you're looking for a top of the line bike trailer for long rides, I would recommend giving these a glance! You can probably even go in person to some bike and equipment stores to give it a once over. I'm not an expert cycler by any means- but we do typically invest in the 'best' options when it comes to things that carry our kids.

Burley Trailer Storage Ideas

We have a little plastic shed that we keep our bikes, trailers, and usually our wagon inside of. The trailers are easy to store by hanging on the wall with the wheels popped off. Totally out of the way! They fit into our vehicle easily as well. I do love how quickly you can pop the wheels on and off, making packing up quick or getting antsy kids out of the car and onto the trail a breeze!
